On Valentine’s Day 2019, Love Spectrum was released — a visually and emotionally powerful photo storybook about the diversity of love and relationships. A heartfelt collaboration between photographer Petra van Velzen, writer Manon Brinkman, and Nadji van den Broek (De Vormstrateeg), the result is a book that invites wonder, acceptance, and conversation.
The Many Faces of Love, Captured
In sixteen personal chapters, Petra and Manon show just how multifaceted love can be. From long-term marriages to polyamorous bonds, queer love to spiritual devotion — every relationship is unique, yet shares the same foundation: love built on mutual respect.
The Makers, in the Frame
Remarkably, Petra, Manon, and Nadji didn’t just collaborate closely on the book — they also stepped in front of the camera themselves, each portrayed with their own partner and story. It’s a powerful gesture that gives a literal face to their mission: making love visible in all its forms.
Clear Design, Full of Feeling
De Vormstrateeg translated the richness of these stories into a design that’s clear, warm, and inviting. The hardcover, finished with a soft-touch laminate, radiates the same care and tenderness as the content itself. Each chapter is given space to breathe — both visually and narratively — allowing image and text to strengthen one another.
Print & Production
With 112 pages in a generous format (21 x 27 cm) and available in both Dutch and English, Love Spectrum is a tribute to the power of visibility and deeply human stories. The book was produced by Jubels, who brought the design to life in razor-sharp full colour on the Xerox iGen5. ISBN: 978-90-829947-9-7
“Love Spectrum isn’t just a book — it’s an invitation to look at love with an open mind, whatever your own shape of it may be.”
