A Different Perspective
Our initial hesitation faded quickly once we sat down with Lucas Pool, co-founder of Thorizon. Their story was fundamentally different. Thorizon is working on a new generation of nuclear energy: safe, clean, compact, and based on residual materials. The molten salt reactor they’re developing is safer than traditional nuclear plants, produces less waste, and prevents proliferation — it simply can’t be used to make weapons.
That got us curious. And motivated. This felt like the future. Something worth contributing to.
From Structure to Interaction
We started with a strategic foundation: a clear sitemap that broke down a complex topic into digestible parts. From there, we created a clickable prototype, which we tested and refined together with Thorizon. That structure and content then evolved into a fresh, visual design that reflects both their innovative technology and European ambition.
The final site was built in WordPress, using the Elementor plugin as a visual editor. It’s not just robust—it’s also user-friendly, allowing the client to manage most updates themselves. (Sometimes even a bit more than we’d recommend as designers... but hey, ownership has its value.)
Technology That Requires Trust
The site doesn’t just explain what Thorizon does—it also builds awareness around a lesser-known, yet promising form of energy. One highlight: an interactive infographic that lets visitors explore how a molten salt reactor works in a hands-on way.
Status and Ambition
Thorizon is currently in the reactor design phase and working on multiple prototypes. Feasibility studies are underway at three nuclear-designated sites in the Netherlands, Belgium, and France. The ambition: begin construction around 2030.
Reflection
What started as a project slightly outside our usual scope turned into a collaboration that closely aligns with our values. Because real progress sometimes requires rethinking your assumptions—and smart, thoughtful design to communicate it clearly.
